What is Dalal Street?

Whenever we talk about the Indian stock market, Dalal Street is the most common word used. Dalal Street is the address of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) which is the leading stock exchange of the country. Many financial firms and institutions are located on this street. When the BSE was shifted to this location, the name of the street near to the building was renamed as Dalal Street. Just like Wall Street in New York represents the financial street of America, Dalal Street represents the financial street of India.

Bombay Stock Exchange is the oldest stock exchange of India. It is located at Phiroze Jeejeebhoy Towers, Dalal Street in Fort. BSE was the first stock exchange in India that was recognized by the Indian government. To measure the performance of the Bombay Stock Exchange, a measuring tool BSE Sensex was developed in 1986. BSE is the first stock exchange in the world that had centralized internet trading system.
